en. in the KDE enviroment, for another way to reporduce. please open file->wizard->Euro Conterter. and then click browse button to open the file view. in the directory, it should have a file is set invisable by filter and its first letter is 
onlu the one in the directory. and then press the key that is the file's first letter.

for expample, in a directory, it should
drwxr-xr-x 2 jiaojh users  72 2006-04-20 15:06 Desktop
drwxr-xr-x 2 jiaojh users 856 2006-04-20 18:58 downloads
drwxr-xr-x 3 jiaojh users  80 2006-04-20 15:51 OOo

touch a new file "hh", and then press the "h" in the file view. OOo will crashed.

BTW, the patch only solved this situation. 
touch a file "dd", and then press the "d". it work ok.
that means the filter deal with invisible file incorrect!

Could you please be more verbose what's happenning there?  I'm unable to 
reproduce the problem :-(
